Uncle Louie Unites with Chuck Knoblauch

Media mogul, former Yankees player engaged in social media strategy.

Louis Gregory, better known as @UncleLouie in the Twitterverse, recently hit another one out of the park when he started working with former New York Yankees player Chuck Knoblauch for the former major league all-star's social media strategy.

The two met through Twitter and quickly Knoblauch realized the power of Uncle Louie Management Group as his Twitter followers rose from around 2,000 to more than 17,000 as of late September. Gregory boasts more than 84,600 on his personal account.

“It’s been something to occupy my time and make connections with fans,” said Knoblauch, who retired from baseball in 2002 and resides in Houston, “and it seems to be going pretty good. It’s been a lot of fun with the fans and meeting new people.”

Knoblauch, who won four World Series titles in his career – three in New York, one in Minnesota – said he enjoys the open engagement and transparency Twitter offers. He doesn’t know, however, if he would have used it while he was playing … if it had existed then, of course.

“I can’t really picture me tweeting like some of these people do before or after games,” he said. “How do you stay focused and tweet something at the same time?”

Growing up in the Sachem community on Long Island but transplated to south Florida, Gregory was and still remains a diehard New York Yankees fan, so having the opportunity to work with Knoblauch is “an honor and a blessing,” he said.

In his prototypical outside-the-box media strategy, Gregory, who has worked with dozens of athletes in the past like Marcellus Wiley, Michael Strahan and Brad Penny, instantly thought of ideas to expose Knoblauch’s name in the social media world.

“One idea was to develop recognition for his followers,” he said, suggesting Knoblauch sign 10 free autographed photos for every 1,000 followers he gains. Next, they built a better website for Knoblauch – ChuckKnoblauch11.com.

“We wanted something that paid homage to his pin stripe heritage, but can’t forget he was instrumental for a World Series win with Twins,” Gregory said. “We made it a quality retrospective of his major league career, showing he is a highly dedicated player. It’s another tool for us to let people know what’s going on with Chuck.”

If you’re game, they also sell tee-shirts that say “@ChuckKnoblauch follows me." If that isn’t enough, he and Knoblauch are working on projects to create an entertainment company, of which the details are not yet available.
