Tyler Andreassi Gives Verbal Commitment to SBU

Will join brother on Seawolves during fall 2013.

Sachem North junior Tyler Andreassi gave a verbal commitment to Stony Brook lacrosse and will play for the Seawolves starting in the fall of 2013.

Andreassi will join his brother Michael, a Sachem alum from the Class of 2011, who is a freshman on the Stony Brook roster this season.

"The school is a great school to go to," Andreassi said. "I'm going to be on the same field agian as my brother. That's a great feeling. I can't wait. The coaches are very nice and I feel like this was a good choice because I'm home and I feel like the team acts as one big family."

He previously committed to Massachusetts because Michael originally signed with the Minutemen, but transferred back to Long Island prior to the start of the spring semester. Andreassi, a defenseman, changed his mind to stay close to home and play alongside his brother in a competitive program.

"I think it is great for Tyler," said Sachem coach Jay Mauro. "Any time you can play with your brother it is special. Whatever makes my players happy when it comes to college make me happy. Stony Brook is a great University with great academics and lacrosse. Coach [Jim] Nagle is a friend of mine and he is and willdo a great job at Stony Brook."

Last season was the first year the brothers played together on the same team and Sachem experienced great success in Suffolk County Division I.

"To be able to play with your brother is something special,” Michael told Patch in October when Tyler initially committed to Massachusetts.

Andreassi is one of, if not the best, long stick defenders in Suffolk County. He's the third in a talented lacrosse pedigree behind older brother Marc, who won national titles at C.W. Post and Michael, who was a highly coveted recruit and offensive threat in the county since his freshman season. Michael will be a junior by the time Tyler arrives in Amherst.

"Marc and Michael did great things and we expect the same from Tyler," Mauro told Patch in October. "They all have the same qualities but they are their own person and we expect Tyler to be Tyler and not Marc or Mike."

Mauro is excited for the opportunity to read about and watch the brothers play together again at the next level.

"It is a special bond to play with your brother in high school and at the college level it is very special," he said. "They will never lose those memories. Tyler is a very good athlete with a tremendous work ethic. When he puts his mind to something he can get it done. We are very excited to see Tyler perform in his junior season with a sophomore season under his belt at the varsity level."

Also on the Stony Brook roster are Sachem alums Alex Harris and Jake Cabble.
