This Week in Sachem Football: Week 5, 2011

A historical look at the Flaming Arrows on the gridiron.

Every week I'll breakdown each game and what it means from a historical perspective in the football programs at Sachem North and East. As the season progresses, the numbers and statistics become more and more interesting, but here's the information from this week:

  • The loss snaps a four-game win streak, which ties the record for the longest in program history.
  • Sachem East is now 0-5 against Pat-Med all-time dating back to 2004 when the teams played each other for the first time.
  • The 30 points Sachem scored are the most the Arrows have ever put up against the Raiders.
  • The 30 points are also the most Sachem has scored in a Week 5 game.
  • Sachem East is 2-6 all-time in Week 5 games.
  • East is still on pace to have one of its highest scoring seasons ever.
  •  The Steven Casali File: Casali, a junior, has rushed for 800 yards and 14 touchdowns in four games.

  • Sachem has started a season 5-0 only seven times in 50 years, including the last two years.
  • Sachem North is the only undefeated team in Suffolk County's Division I. There are only five other undefeated teams in all of the county.
  • The Flaming Arrows have won 26 of their last 28 games dating back to 2008.
  • Last week Sachem was ranked as high as No. 11 in the New York State Sportswriters Association Class AA poll. Last season they finished with a No. 20 ranking. Their highest mark on the poll was No. 6 in 1979.
  • Sachem is 27-22-2 all-time in Week 5.
  • Sachem is 20-8-2 all-time against Connetquot and has outscored the Thunderbirds, 612-310.
  • Sachem has won 11 of its last 13 games against Connetquot dating back to 1995. Overall, their rivalry began in 1980. Sachem won the first eight games in the series.
  • Sachem has scored 32 or more points seven times against Connetquot.
  • The Dalton Crossan File: With his 228 yards and 3 touchdowns, Crossan (18 TDs and 931 rushing yards in 2011) currently has 1,902 career yards, still good enough for No. 9 all-time in Sachem history. Next on the list at No. 8 is Anthony Quezada (1,961), No. 7 Michael Murphy (1,963) and No. 6 Michael Andreassi (1,966). He's only 69 yards from becoming the sixth player in school history to reach 2,000 career yards. If you add in his numbers from two varsity seasons at Shoreham, he has 2,946 career yards as a high school football player. When he reaches 1,000 yards, he'll be only the 14th player in Sachem history to hit that mark for a single season. Last year he had 984 as a junior.
