Sheriff's: Queens Man Arrested on LIE for Possession, DWI-Drugs

After 911 call about reckless driving, Suffolk Sheriff's stopped tractor trailer at Exit 62.

A Queens man was arrested by Suffolk County Sheriff's on the Long Island Expressway after it was reported that he was driving his tractor trailer recklessly on Friday.

Todd Christman, 42, of Queens, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and DWI-drugs after he was pulled over on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 62 after a 911 call reporting his reckless driving, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff's office.

Christman was evaluated by Deputy Sheriff Kern, a Drug Recognition Expert, who found he was impaired by drugs. At the time of his arrest, Christman was in possession of heroin and cocaine, the sheriff's office said.

“Operation of this truck on our highways magnifies the increasing problem of drugged driving," said Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco. "We are committed to expanding our enforcement efforts in providing Drug Recognition Expert and Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement training to our deputies.”

Christman had been operating a 2011 Peterbilt tractor trailer heading east from the Bronx to pick up gravel in Middle Island.

He will be arraigned at 1st District Court in Central Islip Saturday.
