POLL: Best Sachem Football Team of All-Time?

Vote on teams from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s below.

There has been an ongoing debate for years about which Sachem football team is the best of all-time. Let's put it to the test and see what the community has to say.

Sachem has won or played in county championship games in every decade since the 1970s and has garnered extreme success in a handful of seasons.

The 1977 season was special since it was Sachem's first county championship in football with a victory over Patchogue-Medford, was Sachem's first Rutgers Trophy, had its first Hansen Award winner in Brian Dehler and first 1,000-yard rusher in Jerry Figgiani.

The 1983 team is the only in Sachem history to go undefeated at 9-0-1. Sachem beat East Islip in the county championship in what is known as the "over-the-line" game, where there was tons of controversy about Michael Johnson's touchdown pass to Michael Botti at the end of the game.

The 1986 team, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, also won a county title, beating West Islip, 14-0. Sachem's defense only allowed a program-low 44 points in 11 games (10-1).

In 1995, Sachem won its first county championship since 1986, beating Longwood, 21-0. The Flaming Arrows were eventually defeated by Lawrence in the Class I Long Island title game, their only apperance on the ultimate stage of Long Island football. That team featured Hansen winner James O'Neal, arguably the greatest football player to ever wear the Black & Gold.
