Parisi Has Strong Winter League Season in Venezuela

Sachem alum still looking to get back on a big league roster.

Sachem alum and professional baseball player Mike Parisi had a solid winter league season pitching in the Venezuelan league this year.

He had a 2.09 ERA, second best in the league, throwing for the Bravos de Margarita. He was 1-3 overall in nine appearances.

Parisi, who graduated from Sachem in 2001, started last season with the Long Island Ducks and went 6-4 with a 3.50 ERA over 79.1 innings.

He was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Manhattan College, and spent a brief amount of time in the Cubs' organization because being signed by the Ducks. 

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Parisi halfway through the 2011 season and assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque. He eventually won the Dodger Pride Award in August, which is given out to one player at every level of the minor league system who plays the game with a hustling, smart, aggressive style, according to the organization. The players and staff on each respective club vote for the awards.

He was tied for the Pacific Coast League lead with five August wins, going 5-0 with a 4.23 ERA (18 ER/38.1 IP) and holding opposing hitters to a .225 batting average in six starts in the month, according to the Dodgers. Overall he was 6-2 with a 5.20 ERA in nine starts with the Isotopes.

Sachem Patch is still waiting to hear if Parisi is in minor league spring training with the Dodgers.
