Ronkonkoma Shooting Under Investigation by Police

Update: As of 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the only thing that Suffolk County Police can confirm is that shots were fired and detectives are still investigating the incident.

According to one area resident, who posted a comment on Sachem Patch below, she heard multiple loud gun shots around 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

"I have been close to my neighbors for a while, but my family is now in danger and I feel like I am owed an explanation as to why this is happening," she wrote. "If they just let this slide, what can I do to protect my family? This is unacceptable, what a holiday gift."

Original: An alleged shooting in Lake Ronkonkoma Tuesday morning is currently under investigation by Suffolk County Police.

The alleged incident took place near Webster Avenue in Ronkonkoma, just north of Sachem High School North.

"The only thing that we are able to confirm at this time is that it is under investigation," said a public information officer for Suffolk Police. "We are unable to provide details right now."

It's unclear if there are any suspects or if anyone was injured in the incident.

There have been a handful of shootings in the Sachem community in the last two years. Most notably was the in front of his Holbrook home in October 2010. The was also an at a gas station in Ronkonkoma in August 2011. Ray Hirt was also in Lake Ronkonkoma in May 2010.
