From the Desk of Sachem North Principal John Dolan

Sachem Patch sat down with Sachem North Principal John Dolan last week to pick his brain about things going on in school and messages he would like to send to the students and parents.

Dolan is requesting parents who drive their children to school to walk them into the building to officially sign them in if they are late. To avoid being late, he also wants parents to get kids into the building around 7:10 or 7:15 a.m.

“If they’re in class and start the day on the right foot, it’s very helpful,” he said.

Although it has been a rule for some time in the building to not use electronic devices – specifically cell phones – from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Dolan said he continually sees students breaking that rule.

“The technology isn’t bad,” he said, “it’s the inappropriate use of it.”

One of the main goals Dolan and his staff of faculty are working on daily is getting students to the next level of their lives. Dolan posed the question, “where do you want to be September 1 the year you graduate?”

“That’s what Sachem is here to do,” he said, “prepare you for the next step. Every child has to be somewhere. College. Military. Jobs. You’re going to go somewhere, but what’s it going to be? That is a realistic question in this world.”

In order to get to that next step, Dolan said everyone should, “be on time, be prepared to work and work hard.”
