Dalton Crossan, Steve Casali Selected All-State

Crossan is All-State for second year, Casali is East's first selection ever.

Less than 24 hours after their names were being chanted across the gymnasium at Sachem East during a basketball rivalry game, Dalton Crossan and Steve Casali were selected All-State in football by the New York State Sports Writers Association.

Crossan, a senior at Sachem North, was a Second Team selection, while Casali, a junior at Sachem East, made the Sixth Team. This is Crossan's second All-State selection as he made the Sixth Team last year and Casali is the first player from Sachem East football to earn the honor.

Both players are coming off monster seasons in which they guided their respective teams to great heights.

Crossan was named the Hansen Award winner, along with Floyd rival Stacey Bedell, as the top player in Suffolk County. He led Sachem North (9-2) to an appearance in the Suffolk County Division I championship, while accumulating more single-season rushing yards (2,186) and rushing touchdowns (35) than any other player in Sachem history.

He was also All-Division, All-County, All-Long Island, All-Patch and All-Metro this year. The community and Long Island football circles are anxious to see where he'll decide to play in college.

Casali was the spark behind East's (6-4) resurgence in Suffolk. After going 0-8 last season, the Arrows made a valiant comeback as one of the feel good stories in Suffolk football in 2011. They made the playoffs, beat West Islip in the first round and lost in the Suffolk semifinals to Sachem North.

Casali was All-Division, All-County, All-Long Island and All-Patch and was a nominee for the top running back and linebacker awards this season. He'll be one of the top players again in Suffolk next year.

Sachem North has had at least one All-State selection since 2009, including Jesse Scanna last year, who is the only player in program history to earn a First Team All-State selection since these current honors started in 2004.

Chad Kelly, a Clemson-bound quarterback out of St. Joseph's upstate, was named the Class AA New York State Player of the Year.

Bedell was selected First Team All-State along with Longwood's Omari Palmer and Darius Greene.
